A woman’s body undergoes dramatic changes during the 40 weeks of pregnancy. These physical changes are the result of hormones released during pregnancy, as well as the growth of the foetus and the resulting metabolic changes.
As many expectant mothers soon realise, carrying a baby shifts a womans centre of gravity placing stress on the back, neck and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes ligaments and causes the pelvic joints to become less stable, thereby changing posture and pullint the pelvis forward.
Massage therapy during pregnancy can often relieve many of the common side effects of backaches, headaches, oedema and other pregnancy related problems. It is also useful in helping with the psychological and emotional impact of pregnancy. Some mothers experience a sense of vulnerability and perhaps increased anxiety. The baby develops a sensitivity to mothers moods and feelings, so aswell as helping to relieve some of the discomforts of pregnancy, massage can help both mother and baby to remain in a calm and healthy state physically, mentally and emotionally.
Our pregnancy massage treatments use adapted positions in order for a full body massage to be carried out in a way that is most comfortable and safe for mother and baby. Mum to be will be side-lying and fully supported with soft plump pillows/cushions in all the relevant places.
I hold a specific pregnancy massage qualification so rest assured, you will be in safe hands.
